USCIS to Welcome 34 New US Citizens Aboard the Battleship New Jersey During Ceremony Celebrating Independence Day June 28, 2023
Citizenship candidates to take Oath during special ceremonies across the country
CAMDEN, N.J. — U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial will welcome 34 new U.S. citizens during a special Independence Day naturalization ceremony Tuesday. USCIS Mt. Laurel Field Office Director Keith Dorr will administer the Oath of Allegiance, and other officials will offer welcoming and congratulatory remarks to the new citizens.
The 34 citizenship candidates originate from the following 21 countries: Afghanistan, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Colombia, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Ghana, India, Jordan, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Russia, St. Lucia, Togo, United Kingdom and Vietnam. Among the candidates, three are currently serving in the U.S. military.
This ceremony is part of USCIS’ annual Independence Day celebration of our nation’s 247th birthday and the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. USCIS will welcome new U.S. citizens at Independence Day-themed naturalization ceremonies across the country.
USCIS often participates in naturalization ceremonies at museums, schools, libraries and other notable locations to celebrate the conclusion of an immigrant’s journey to citizenship and honor their commitment. Ceremonies in honor of national holidays or significant historic anniversaries — like Independence Day — connect new citizens with our nation’s past, while welcoming them as part of America’s future.
Battleship New Jersey (BB-62) is the most decorated battleship in Navy history, earning distinction in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War and conflicts in the Middle East. The New Jersey’s history spans over half the 20th century, from her design in 1938 until 1991. Today the New Jersey continues her service as a living museum and memorial.
USCIS encourages new U.S. citizens and guests to share their naturalization experiences on social media using the hashtag #NewUSCitizen.
