Free Science Activities throughout the Ship & Visitors Center
PLACE: Battleship New Jersey, Camden Waterfront, NJ
DETAILS: The inaugural STEM Day aboard the Battleship New Jersey, presented by Lockheed
Martin, will take place on Saturday, October 12. Guests touring the Battleship can
participate in science activities throughout the ship and in the Visitors Center. The
programs, which will be directed by the Battleship’s Curatorial staff and partners
of the Battleship, will take place from 10am to 4pm.
Students from Camden are invited to tour and participate in these programs at no
Activities presented by partners of the Battleship include:
- Creating Periscopes, presented by Edmond Scientific, in the Visitors Center at
the Japanese Periscope exhibit;
- Trajectories, presented by the Independence Seaport Museum;
- Ship Navigation, presented by Dr, Tom Walsh.
The Curatorial staff of the Battleship will offer these programs:
- How Do Boats Float?
- Build a Battleship
- LEGO Ship Building
- Engineering Tours
- Mechanical Advantage

Located on the Delaware River, along the Camden Waterfront across from the city
of Philadelphia, the Battleship is open for audio tours every day from 9:30am to 3pm
every day. Scouts, youth groups and families can experience an overnight aboard the
Battleship. The award-winning overnight program includes breakfast and dinner
served at the chowline, a guided tour of the ship, the chance to fire the saluting gun
and the opportunity to sleep in the bunks that the crew of the USS New Jersey once
