Camden Mayor to Present Proclamation to US Navy for Navy Week
WHEN: Thursday, October 12 10:30am
WHAT: Camden Mayor Victor Carstarphen will present a Proclamation from the City of Camden to the
US Navy, while the Navy Band will perform patriotic songs on the forecastle (foreward deck)
Of the Battleship New Jersey on Thursday, Oct. 12 at 10:30am. The ceremony is part of Navy
Week in Philadelphia and Camden.
The ceremony, which is free to attend, will also feature remarks from Captain Walt Urban USN
(Ret.), the Battleship’s Military Liaison Officer, and USS Cooperstown’s Commanding Officer,
Commander Daxton Moore. The Cooperstown is currently docked at Penn’s Landing in
Philadelphia for Navy Week this week.
Throughout this week, the Navy and Marines personnel participating in many events in Philadelphia
and Camden. Seventy-five visiting sailors from across the nation, have volunteered throughout the
community and discuss why the Navy matters to the region. This marks the first time Philadelphia
has hosted Navy Week since 2011. For more information on Navy Week, visit

Berthed on the Camden Waterfront along the Delaware River, the Battleship New Jersey Museum and
Memorial is open every day from 10am to 4pm for tours. Scout troops, youth organizations and families
can spend an overnight aboard the Battleship! The Battleship’s award-winning Overnight Program
features dinner and breakfast served at the chowline, a guided tour of the Battleship, the chance to fire
the ship’s saluting gun and the opportunity to sleep in the bunks that the crew of the USS New Jersey
