Position: Security Guard (Full-time/Part-time)

Salary Range: $15.50 – $18.50 per hour


Job Description

Security personnel are typically the first representative of the Battleship NJ Museum and Memorial staff guests will encounter upon their arrival.  Security will meet, greet, and secure in a professional and friendly manner.

  • Security guards work eight-hour shifts, to provide twenty-four-hour coverage, seven days a week. The available shifts are 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m., 12:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. Scheduling for part-time guards are designed to fill open shifts, with the opportunity to obtain additional hours on a per diem basis during events or other special programs held aboard the ship



  • Greet museum staff, guests, volunteers, and vendors upon entry
  • Monitor the Wiggins Park Marina
  • Manage access points
  • Monitor surveillance equipment, electrical, lights and HVAC systems
  • Observe and report security, safety incidents and conditions, including accidents and medical emergencies
  • Respond to fire and security alarms
  • Secure premises
  • Control traffic
  • Collect parking donations
  • Comes to work; is on time and completes shift assignments (including overtime, if assigned)
  • Has a neat, professional appearance and comes to work in complete and clean clothing (red shirt and black or khaki pants)
  • Possess a friendly professional demeanor and provides quality customer service


Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent


Preferred Skills

  • Must demonstrate strong customer service skills
  • Good communicator (both verbal and written) and capable of handling typical crisis situations both efficiently and effectively

Occasional reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling.
