Position: Facilities Custodian (Part-Time / Full-Time)
Position Overview

We’re seeking dependable candidates for Facilities Custodian roles. The custodian helps maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment across all visitor and staff areas, including tour routes, offices, restrooms, the Visitors Center, and museum grounds. The role also supports the Overnight Encampment Program, which hosts youth and group stays aboard the ship.

Responsibilities
  • Clean, sanitize, and restock all public and staff areas throughout the ship and facilities.
  • Maintain sleeping quarters and restrooms used by Overnight Encampment guests.
  • Assist with event setup and breakdown, ensuring spaces are clean and organized.
  • Work evenings and weekends as needed, including overnights and special events.
  • Perform light landscaping around the Visitor Center and parking areas.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Prior custodial or janitorial experience preferred
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to follow verbal and written instructions
Qualifications
  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors, and is subject to variable temperatures, including hot, cold, damp, or drafty and dependent upon extreme weather conditions, and shipboard location.
  • Must be able to navigate a historic naval vessel, including steep stairs, ladders, narrow passageways, and metal decks.
  • Must be able to lift to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks including standings, walking, bending and climbing.
  • Must be able to work weekends, as well as day-time and night-time schedules.

Position: Guest Services Associate
Position Overview

Guest Services Associates are the frontline ambassadors of the Battleship New Jersey Museum & Memorial, ensuring every visitor feels welcomed, informed, and valued. This role blends customer service, sales, and operational excellence across all visitor touchpoints — including admissions, retail, membership, and events

Responsibilities

Associates are cross-trained in ticketing, store operations, membership processing, and basic administrative duties. They are expected to maintain professionalism, accuracy, and initiative while representing the highest standards of hospitality and integrity.

Position: Curatorial and Education Intern
Position Overview

Curatorial and Education Interns will work with Battleship New Jersey Museum staff to research, preserve, and educate the public about the history of the Battleship New Jersey. This is a great opportunity for New Jersey-based college students, and recent graduates, who are interested in performing research and learning museum management aboard the most decorated battleship in the history of the US Navy. Successful interns will work first-hand with several departments within the Battleship and receive a wide range of experience in the museum’s daily operation.

The Battleship New Jersey has many steep ladders. While it helps to be able to traverse the ship, this internship position does not require being able to climb the stairs. If you have any accessibility concerns, please contact Libby Jones (contact information below) to discuss this.

Responsibilities
  • Learn about the history of the ship enough to be able to talk about the ship with guests
  • Catalogue archival documents and objects in the museum’s collection, primarily the blueprint collection
  • Research battleship crew members for the crew database
  • Data Entry associated with the crew database
  • Talk with crew members about their service on board
Qualifications
  • Must be an undergraduate student, graduate student, or recent graduate from a New Jersey institution of higher education or a New Jersey resident receiving education out of the state.
  • Must be pursuing, or have received, a degree in one of the following majors: Civics & Government; Communications; Education; Humanities; and Social Sciences.
  • Must have an interest in history and education.
  • Must be able to retain historical facts, and relate that information to visitors in an engaging and informative manner.

This position will last from May to August 2025, and interns are expected to commit to twenty hours of work per week over ten weeks.

Position: Event Coordinator Intern
Position Overview

Battleship New Jersey is seeking a student intern interested in gaining experience planning and executing unique events on an iconic battleship. Reporting to the Events Director, the ideal candidate will bring energy, enthusiasm, and fresh ideas to help grow and diversify a robust event calendar.

Objectives of this role
  • Assist in brainstorming event ideas to grow revenue and organization visibility
  • Help to inform new marketing campaigns aimed at widening and diversifying our event audience
  • Develop and implement updated procedures to optimize performance and enhance client experience
Responsibilities
  • Assist with the sales, planning, and execution of private events including weddings, proms, birthday parties, and military ceremonies
  • Serve as a key event staff member overseeing large-scale public events including fireworks shows, beer and music festivals, and education symposiums
  • Act as a liaison between the events department and other Battleship departments as well as external vendors
  • Assist with the design and dissemination of event marketing materials and social media content related to events
  • Collaborate and brainstorm with the events team and other departments to evaluate and implement best practices

Position: Social Media Marketing Intern
Position Overview

Are you creative, hardworking, and looking to gain hands-on experience working on a variety of projects? Battleship New Jersey is seeking a marketing intern who can contribute fresh ideas, create content, and research industry trends. Reporting directly to the Digital Marketing Director, the ideal candidate has a strong understanding of brand marketing, social media, and nonprofit strategies, as well as an interest in working on high-impact projects in a fast-paced environment.

Objectives of this role
  • Assist in brainstorming campaign ideas and planning weekly/monthly content
  • Monitor social channels and respond to customers
  • Track key metrics to measure campaign success
  • Provide content creation support for in-person events
  • Work across departments on integrated campaigns and broader initiatives
Responsibilities
  • Post across Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn and respond to user comments and messages in a timely manner
  • Brainstorm campaign ideas and create content including videos
  • Collect performance metrics to measure progress
  • Stay updated on current social media trends, tools, and platform updates
Skills and qualifications
