Facebook Live Ceremony for Memorial Day Aboard the Battleship

TIME:            Memorial Day Ceremony:  10am, Monday, May 25, 2020


DETAILS:       The Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial will honor our military brothers and

Sisters who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our nation with a Memorial Day ceremony on

Facebook Live at 10am on Monday, May 25.


The Memorial Day ceremony will feature an  overview on the history and significance of

Memorial Day by Battleship Curator, Ryan Szimanski, and a talk on “What Memorial Day

Means” by Army veteran and Director of Accounting for the Battleship, Mike Hayes.  The

ceremony will end with the casting of a memorial wreath onto the Delaware River, the

playing of TAPs on bugle and a salute from the Battleship’s saluting gun.


Since the Battleship remains closed for tours due to the coronavirus, the ceremony  will be

shown on Facebook Live at www.facebook.com/BattleshipNJ at 10am on Monday, May 25..


Media members are invited to come aboard the forecastle (forward deck) for the

ceremony.   Media  members who come aboard the Battleship must wear face coverings

and practice social distancing.

Located on the Delaware River, along the Camden Waterfront across from the city of  Philadelphia, the

Battleship is currently closed for tours due to the coronavirus.  The ship will reopen once it’s deemed safe by

the state of New Jersey.  Even though our nation’s most decorated battleship is closed, people can still
