The Battleship New Jersey, our nation’s most decorated battleship and now a museum
and memorial, will host a Civil War Navy Symposium on the ship’s fantail, tented
rear deck, and pier on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 9am to 4:30pm.
The symposium, presented by Old Baldy Civil War Round Table, will include
presentations on the Blue Water Navy in the Atlantic Ocean and the Brown Water
Navy along the rivers, such as the Mississippi River, during the Civil War years.
Presentations include “Under Two Flags” by Dr. William M. Fowler, “A Dog Before
a Soldier” by Chuck Veit, “Grant Invades Tennessee” by Dr. Timothy B. Smith and
“Mr. Lincoln’s Brown Water Navy” by Dr. Gary D, Joiner.
There will also be musical performances by Charlie Zahm with the Jolly Tars, Civil
War Navy and local history exhibits, door prizes, raffles and even the firing of a Civil
War Cannon on the pier of the Battleship.
Tickets are still available and can be purchased at the Battleship on Saturday. Tickets
are $45 per person.

Located on the Delaware River, along the Camden Waterfront across from the city of
Philadelphia, the Battleship is open for guided and audio tours every day from
9:30am to 3pm. The annual Suds & Stogies at the ship, featuring holiday craft beer
and fine cigars, will take place on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 1pm to 5pm. Adults can
