Ceremony for the Anniversary of the Launch of the USS New Jersey

The Battleship New Jersey will celebrate the 77th Anniversary of the Launch of the USS New Jersey with a

ceremony in the Officers’ Wardroom at 10am on Saturday, Dec. 7.  The ceremony will include a

historic overview of the launch of the USS New Jersey by Curator Ryan Szimanski, the performance

of the National Anthem on bugle by Battleship Volunteer Nan LaCorte and cake for all guests in

attendance.  The ceremony is free for the public to attend.

The USS New Jersey (BB-62) was launched 7 December 1942 by the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard;

sponsored by Mrs. Charles Edison, wife of Governor Edison of New Jersey, former Secretary of the

Navy.  The New Jersey, our nation’s most decorated and largest battleship, actually floated across the

Delaware River to “kiss” new name-sake state.
