The Battleship is currently not accepting any new reservations for the New Year’s Overnight. Thanks to all the families that reserved their bunks! Have a great night aboard the Big J!
Families can experience the First Night of 2019 aboard the Battleship New Jersey! Our award-winning overnight program features dinner and breakfast served at the chowline, a guided tour of the Battleship, the chance to fire a saluting gun and the opportunity to sleep in the bunks that the crew of the USS New Jersey once did.
Further, at midnight, all guests can enjoy the amazing view of the SugarHouse New Year’s Eve Fireworks on the Waterfront!
The First Night overnight is $79 per person. Guests must be part of a family, which means at least one parent or guardian and one child age 6 – 17.
You may know the shopping day after Thanksgiving as Black Friday, but on the Battleship, we refer to Friday, Nov. 29 as Black Dragon Friday!
During WWII, because of the ship’s dark painted hull and when she fired her guns it looked like she was breathing fire, the Battleship earned the nickname “The Black Dragon.”
On Friday, Nov. 29, the Battleship Gift Shop will celebrate “Black Dragon Friday.” Guests will get an extra 10% off all purchases that day at the Gift Shop, open from 10am to 4pm. The Battleship will be open for tours on Black Dragon Friday from 9:30am to 3pm.
The Battleship will be closed for tours on Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 28. Have a nice and safe holiday!
During World War II, the ship’s heating was not nearly as good as it is today, try on some of their coats and hats, and see for yourself if you can keep warm. Throughout her history, the ship spent most of her time in warm climates, avoiding the chill by staying near the equator; however, she couldn’t avoid it all together, including a particularly cold commissioning ceremony in Norfolk, Virginia in November of 1950.
Check our actual Navy foul weather gear in the Captain’s In-port Cabin throughout the month of January as part of the Fire Power tour.
