You may know the shopping day after Thanksgiving as Black Friday, but on the Battleship, we refer to Friday, Nov. 24 as Black Dragon Friday!
During WWII, because of the ship’s dark painted hull and when she fired her guns it looked like she was breathing fire, the Battleship earned the nickname “The Black Dragon.”
On Friday, Nov. 24, the Battleship Gift Shop will celebrate “Black Dragon Friday.” Guests will get an extra 10% off all purchases that day at the Gift Shop, open from 10am to 4pm. The Battleship will be open for tours on Black Dragon Friday from 9:30am to 3pm.
The Battleship remembers our military men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice with a memorial service, conducted by the Bishop Eustace Knights of Columbus. The ceremony, which will take place on the forecastle (forward deck) and is free to attend, will include a live performance of TAPS and the casting of a memorial wreath into the Delaware River.
The Battleship is celebrating Delaware River Day by allowing a guest to fire the ship’s saluting gun every hour from 10am to our closing at 5pm on Sunday, Sept. 2.
Guests can also enjoy a free tour with the purchase of an adult Fire Power tour on Sunday, Sept. 2.
Guests touring the Battleship can enter to win at the Battleship Ticket Office when purchasing a ticket on Sept. 2. Guests touring the Battleship on Sunday are invited to watch the firing of the gun throughout the day.
