Come join us at the 2024 Big Guns Cornhole Tournament aboard the Battleship New Jersey. This year we are happy to announce Bust you up Cornhole and Nola Bags LLC as presenting sponsors!
The event will take place on the fantail (tented rear deck) of the Battleship New Jersey and we will also be utilizing the pier to add more courts. Food concessions and bar service will be available on the Battleship.
The format will be Round Robin pool play (5 pools randomly populated) 4 rounds minimum.

$100/team pre-registration $120/team walk-up registration if not sold out. $10/person cover fee is included with registration (100% goes to the Battleship New Jersey and includes a self guided tour of the ship)

- These tickets get your access to watch the tournament on the pier or fantail. They do not include a tour of the Battleship.
The tour must be taken before any alcohol is consumed.
Experience an “adult-oriented” tour during the evening hours! This adult tour, led by a member of our curatorial team, will take guests through rarely seen parts of the ship and will showcase the more mature sailor art created over the years, as well as share some adult stories. Guests can enjoy a cold beer, glass of wine or a soft drink after the tour on the Main Deck! Must be over 21 years old.

Student Day: Guns, Engines, and Armor
Saturday, August 17 at 10am
Students and their parents can experience a guided tour of the Battleship and a classroom-style lesson. Tour into the ship’s armored citadel and see one of the engine rooms and gun turrets.
Every month offers this unique tour and hands-on class. $12 per person.

Fire a Salute from the Battleship’s Saluting Gun!
Saluting Gun Salutes Saturday, Sept. 28 from 12pm to 2pm. Just a $50 donation to the Battleship!
This Saturday, Sept. 28, you can fire a salute from the Battleship’s saluting gun between 12pm to 2pm. Just a $50 donation.

Did you know that you can also donate to fire either the Battleship’s 5-inch gun or 40mm saluting gun when you want to fire it? We ask for a $500 donation for someone to pull the trigger of the ship’s portside 5-inch gun, and a $100 donation to fire the ship’s 40mm saluting gun. You choose the date and time! Don’t worry — we’re not blowing up Pennsylvania. We only fire blanks, but it makes a nice fireball and very loud bang!

EVENING TURRET II TOUR
Join a knowledgeable tour guide in a 90-minute, family friendly, walking tour that takes guests through the five stories of one of Battleship New Jersey’s massive 16″ gun turrets. Visitors will get to stand in the armored gun house where the gun captain oversaw reloading procedures, explore the magazines where 1-ton shells and thousands of powder bags were stored, and pull the triggers in the plotting room where primitive but effective computers aimed the guns over the horizon. This fun for all ages experience includes many hands-on elements that let’s guests see and feel what it was like for a World War II crew member to fire the ship’s guns.
Admission is $40 for adults, $35 for Veterans, Children age 12 and under, and Seniors. $20 for Battleship NJ Members

Cigars on the River is coming back to the Big J!
On Saturday, Oct. 5, the Battleship’s Pier, Fantail (tented rear deck) and Forecastle (forward deck) will be open for guests to enjoy cigars aboard our nation’s most decorated battleship! We’ll have dinner, bar service, cigar samples, cigar vendors, cigar accessories, entertainment and more! It’s a great time and vital fundraiser for the ship.

EVENING ENGINE ROOM GUIDED TOUR
Descend into the armored citadel of the ship for a 90-minute, family friendly, guided, walking tour of the most powerful engineering plant ever installed on a battleship. Learn how steam powered engines moved the massive ship at record breaking speeds and see the spaces crew members worked in. This hands-on walking tour is fun for all ages and allows guests to climb down seven stories into a fire room to see the huge boilers, an engine room to see the turbines and throttle wheels, and a one of the ship’s many steering positions.

Moonlight Guided Tour – All Ages. Friday, Oct. 18 at 6pm
Experience a guided tour of the Battleship during the evening hours! This spooky tour, led by a member of our curatorial team, will take guests through rarely seen parts of the ship and will focus on some of the scarier parts of the Big J. Each guest will get a Battleship mini flashlight to help guide them through the night.
Admission is $40 for adults and $30 for children 16 and under.

The Battleship will hold a symposium for the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Leyte Gulf on Saturday, Oct. 26.
Capt. Walt Urban, the Battleship’s Military Liaison Officer, invites all to join Curator Ryan Szimanski and other WWII experts as they speak on topics associated with Battle of Leyte Gul. Speakers will be in the morning from 10am – 12pm, and then after lunch until 2pm.
Speakers currently include:
The Honorable Kenneth J. Braithwaite, USN (ret.), who will serve as the MC for the Symposium, was sworn in as the 77th Secretary of the Navy on May 29, 2020. He previously served as the 31st U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Norway. Secretary Braithwaite graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1984 and was commissioned as an ensign in the U.S. Navy. In 1995, he earned a master’s degree in government administration graduating with honors from the University of Pennsylvania,. Fels School of Government. One of the many highlights of Secretary Braithwaite’s Navy service include his deployment for Operation Iraqi Freedom in support of naval operations to capture the port of Umm Qasr in 2003.I
Robert Lundgren is the author of The World Wonder’d: What Really Happened Off Samar, Battleship Victory: Principles of Sea Power in the War in the Pacific 1941-1945, and numerous articles.
Martin Irons served in the U.S. Army Reserve. The Vermont-based author is a current member of the Military Writers Society of America and the United States Naval Institute. Some of his published works include: Phalanx Against the Divine Wind: Protecting the Fast Carrier Task Force During World War II and Corsair Down! Tales of Rescue and Survival During World War II. Irons is currently the Author-in-Residence at the USS Slater DE-766/Destroyer-Escort Historical Museum, Port of Albany, NY.
ADrachinfel (Alex Pocklinton) is a historian, engineer, and presenter. Drachinifel hosts the most successful naval history channel on YouTube. He puts out multiple video documentaries every week from five-minute warship guides to full-length, in-depth dives into particular topics for his half a million subscribers.
Coffee will be available throughout the symposium.
There will be a break for lunch! On registration, please choose your desired packaged lunch. Each box comes with a sandwich, a bag of chips, a cookies, condiments, utensils, and a variety of soft drinks or iced tea to choose from. Sandwiches choices are: Grilled Veggie with Hummus, Tuna Salad, Chicken Salad, Baked Ham and Swiss Cheese, Roast Beef, Roast Turkey.

Moonlight Guided Tour – Adults Only. Halloween Night, Thursday, Oct. 31 at 6pm
Experience an “adult-oriented” tour during the evening hours! This spooky adult tour, led by a member of our curatorial team, will take guests through rarely seen parts of the ship and will focus on the more macabre tales of death and injuries on board. Each guest will get a Battleship mini flashlight to help guided them through the night.
Guests can also enjoy a cold beer, glass of wine or a soft drink after the tour. Must be over 21 years or older.
Admission is $45 for adults only.
