Wednesday, August 18, 2021 – Rock and Rolling

How does a battleship stand up to the rock and rolling of the ocean and pressure of the guns? Can you build something that can stand up to the test? Join Battleship Educators on August 18th at 9:00 AM for a tour of the ship and an activity. This month’s tour will include a visit to the bridge where the ship was steered from, a look at the ship’s expansion joint that allows it to flex in the waves, and a look at the damage the ship took from the concussion of the ship’s guns over 50 years ago!

Admission is a $5 donation for all.

Experience an “adult-oriented” tour during the evening hours! On Wednesday, August 11 or 18th, at 6 pm, this adult tour, led by the Battleship’s Curator, will take guests off the public tour route and will showcase the more mature sailor art created over the years, as well as share some adult stories. Tickets are limited and will sell out quickly.

Must be over 21 years old.

Tickets are a $30 Donation per adult

Star Wars movies inspired cosplay groups will be on the ship from 11am – 3pm for a day of fun. World War II’s influence on Star Wars is more than passive: it was a direct inspiration for many of the things we see in the galaxy far, far away. Learn more and take photos with experienced cosplayers while you take a tour of the Battleship on Saturday August 28th.

Engineering “Steam to Speed” Guided Tour – Descend into the armored citadel of the ship for a 90-minute, family friendly, guided, walking tour of the most powerful engineering plant ever installed on a battleship. Learn how steam powered engines moved the massive ship at record breaking speeds and see the spaces crew members worked in. This hands-on walking tour is fun for all ages and allows guests to climb down seven stories into a fire room to see the huge boilers, an engine room to see the turbines and throttle wheels, and a one of the ship’s many steering positions. Tickets are limited and will sell out quickly.

Join a knowledgeable tour guide in a 90-minute, family friendly, walking tour that takes guests through the five stories of one of Battleship New Jersey’s massive 16″ gun turrets. Visitors will get to stand in the armored gun house where the gun captain oversaw reloading procedures, explore the magazines where 1-ton shells and thousands of powder bags were stored, and pull the triggers in the plotting room where primitive but effective computers aimed the guns over the horizon. This fun for all ages experience includes many hands-on elements that let’s guests see and feel what it was like for a World War II crew member to fire the ship’s guns. Tickets are limited and will sell out quickly.

Enjoy a delicious Dietz & Watson Hot Dog from the Chowline of the Battleship New Jersey on Sunday, Sept. 5, from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm.

Available for any guests touring the ship, dollar dogs will be served at the Chowline, where the crew once received their meals.  Add on chips, a soda, even a cold beer and enjoy your lunch in the crew’s mess, where the sailors of the USS New Jersey would eat their meals.

The Battleship is open for tours every day from 10am to 4pm.

100% of the proceeds from this show will be donated to THE PATRIOT FUND to assist in their efforts to help local veterans and their families.  Enjoy breathtaking views of the Philadelphia skyline aboard the historic 887-foot long, 45,000-ton most decorated battleship in U.S. history and savor a one-of-a-kind evening of great music, haunting melodies and powerhouse vocals that Taylor has become well known for.  After numerous Philadelphia area sellouts at the TLA, World Cafe Live, Skybox Arena and Prince Music Theatre, Taylor returns in this new, highly acclaimed show, “Doreen Taylor LIVE”. The approximately 80-minute show (no intermission) will be an acoustical retrospect of the songs that were most influential in her expansive musical journey and some of the incredible stories behind them. It highlights Taylor’s career as an award winning singer/songwriter, Billboard Hot 100 Recording Artist and her time On and Off Broadway.

Join the 102.9 WMGK air staff for tasty craft brews and awesome views at the MGK Brew Blast on the Battleship New Jersey!

 

It will be a great day of craft beer sampling (over 50 beers) and live classic rock from MGK House Band, the Launch, on the tented deck of America’s most decorated battleship. All tickets include a FREE TOUR of the Battleship New Jersey.

The MGK Brew Blast is a rain or shine event. The main event area is tented. If it’s raining on Saturday, you may want to bring rain gear or an umbrella to stay dry if waiting in line to check in or to walk from the main event area to the bathrooms (about 20-50 feet from beer tent).

WMGK’s John DeBella, Matt Cord and Andre Gardner will be on board ready to talk music and beer with you. There will also be great food available for purchase. This year’s Brew Blast will feature over 50 craft beers.

  • General Admission Tickets are $45 per adult.
  • Group Discount Price of $40 per person when you buy six or more tickets together.  Limited number  available.
  • ATTENTION DESIGNATED DRIVERS – There’s a Designated Driver ticket for just $20.  This  allows you entry into the event but you will not be able to consume alcohol. This ticket includes a free tour of the Battleship.  You MUST BE 21+ to enter.

This year’s line-up will include over 50 beers. Conshohocken Brewing, Ommegang, Spellbound Brewing, Tuckahoe Brewing, Blue Point Brewing, Victory, more to come!

 

Parking

Parking is available at the garage next to BB&T Pavilion. It is a short walk from the parking garage to the Battleship.

Getting There Without Driving

  • Riverlink Ferry: Those coming from Philadelphia can take the Riverlink Ferry to the Entertainment Center stop and take a short walk directly to Battleship NJ from the parking lot.
  • Riverline Light Rail Train: Ride NJ TRANSIT’s River LINE to the Battleship! Exit at Entertainment Center and walk around the Susquehanna Bank Center. For information, rates and schedules visit https://www.njtransit.com/trip-planner-to or call 973-275-5555.
  • PATCO: If taking PATCO from Philadelphia or within NJ, you can take PATCO to the Broadway Station/Walter Rand Transportation Center stop. You can purchase a ticket and get on the Riverline Light Rail Train and take that to the Entertainment Center/BB&T Pavilion stop. Once off the train you can walk around the Susquehanna Bank Center (about 2 or 3 minute walk) to the Battleship.

A special day of education for students and their parents aboard the ship.

How does the ship’s navigator know that the water is deep enough for a battleship? Or if the ship can fit under a particular bridge? Navigational charts are maps of waterways. Learn to read them and test your skills to see if you can safely navigate New Jersey into port! Join Battleship Educators for a tour of the ship and an activity. This month’s tour will include a visit to the ship’s navigation bridge and chart house as well as the opportunity to raise signal flags to signify that the battleship plans to alter course.

Admission is a $5 donation for all.
