Arrr…the pirates are invading the Battleship, Saturday, July 6.
Meet pirates throughout the Battleship, check out pirate artifacts, experience a cannon firing, live music, demos and more.
Guests who dress like a pirate for their tour will get a 20% discount on their tour of the Battleship on July 6!
Pirate activities are free when you purchase a tour of the Battleship!
The Battleship will offer a special Reveille relaxed tour, suitable for families with autistic members during the pre-public opening hours of 8:30am to 10:00am on Saturday, July 13.
This quieter museum experience, will also feature additional hands-on programs and a modified tour route will be available to those wishing to avoid the Battleship’s ladders (stairs). A quiet room will be open to any that wish to use it.
Tickets will be available at the Battleship Ticket Office from 8:30am to 10:00am on July 13.
* Guests should be advised that there is a Caribbean Festival at Wiggins Park, just north of the Battleship. The event is not until later on Saturday, but they may be setting up in the morning. Also, due to the festival, all parking for the Battleship will be along Clinton St.
Climb aboard with Independence Seaport Museum and Battleship New Jersey for Deck-to-Deck: Ship Tours. Offered quarterly, the tour will explore National Historic Landmark ships Cruiser Olympia, Submarine Becuna, and Battleship New Jersey after hours. Guides will dive into the Navy through the ages, and how engineering, gunnery, and crew life changed (or didn’t change) over time. Visitors will have the exclusive chance to experience parts of all three ships that are rarely accessible to the general public.
Must be at least 13 years old to participate.

Experience an “adult-oriented” tour during the evening hours!
On Thursday, July 18, at 6 pm, this adult tour, led by the Battleship’s Curator, will take guests off the public tour route and will showcase the more “adult-oriented” sailor art created over the years, as well as share some adult stories. Included in this tour is a cold beer or glass of wine – or soft drink – on the Main Deck Portside as we enjoy the skyline of Philadelphia at night!

In partnership with the USO and Battleship New Jersey, the Philadelphia Union are running a 5v5 mini-soccer tournament on the deck of the Battleship to celebrate Military Appreciation Week in August!
The Union are inviting all active duty military, as well as retired, reserve, DOD civilians, and friends and family playing in honor or memory of military members, in the Philadelphia-area to assemble teams and compete in the tournament. It is completely free of charge to military teams and the Union will donate back to the USO and Battleship for every team that registers!
Guests touring the Battleship are welcome to watch the action on the fantail! We’ll have food concessions and bar service.

The winning team will receive free tickets and limited-edition Adidas camo warm-up tops that the team will wear prior to the Union’s Military Appreciation Game on Sunday, August 11 against Houston Dynamo. They will also be recognized on-field in front of fans and the team.

The WWII Victory Day BBQ Lunch and Dance will take place on the fantail (tented rear deck) of the Battleship.
This year’s event will feature the 1940 sounds of Drew Nugent & the Midnight Society Band, as well as the dancing of the Olde City Sweethearts.

In addition to the 16-inch gun turrets and other amazing spaced along the tour, you’ll also get to check out WWII artifacts in the Officers’ Wardroom and meet WWII re-enactors throughout the ship!

In 1967, while the USS New Jersey was being reactivated for the Vietnam War, 40mm anti-aircraft guns were removed. To save time and money, the tubs, where the guns were housed, were left in place. Captain J. Edward Snyder Jr., always sensitive to crew morale, thought the empty gun tubs, on either side of his cabin, would make perfect swimming pools.
