Check out what public events are coming up on our calendar.

Bring in an item below and the Military Support Group of NJ, a non-profit organization, will collect the items, put them into care packages and send them to our military personnel overseas.
Plus, we’ll give all donors a coupon for a free tour of the Battleship with the purchase of an adult tour!

All items should be in the store packaging, not loose.
Items can be dropped off in the containing in the Battleship’s Visitors Center on Saturdays and Sundays through the end of the year during the hours of 11am to 3pm .

Student Day
A special day of education for students and their parents aboard the ship.
Registered guests will experience a guided tour of the Battleship and participate in an onboard class.
This month’s class is focusing on the ship’s propulsion system, students will learn how power is generated on board to move the ship and provide electricity to the ship’s machinery.
All guests will be health screened, must wear masks and will be safely distanced along the tour and in the classroom.

The final day to tour our nation’s most decorated battleship in 2020 will be Sunday, Dec. 27. Tours will be available on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 3pm through Dec. 27.
The Battleship will be closed for tours from Dec. 28 through January and February. The Battleship plans to re-open for tours during weekends in March 2021.
The Battleship’s online Ship’s Store will continue to be open for merchandise sales. The Battleship will still need your support financially through donations and memberships. For more information and updates on the ship, please visit www.battleshipnewjersey.org.

Join our curator for a special guided tour of the ship focusing on the core components of a battleship: guns, engines, and armor.
Guests will go through the ship’s 6in armored deck into the citadel that protects the most essential components of the ship.
Once inside the citadel, guests will see one of the ships 4 engine and boiler rooms that made this the fastest battleship ever built.
Guests will also see the inside of a 16in gun turret and the Mk 1A electro-mechanical analog computer that fired these guns over the ship’s fifty years of service.

This 4-plank slab of our original teak decking is approximately 40″ long x 16″ wide with rubberized caulk between the planks. No bolt holes or damage. Would make a beautiful table or inlay in a bar.
This teak was removed from the main deck on the port side of turret 3, the aft 16″/50cal gun, during a major restoration of that area performed in summer of 2020. Judging by the area it was removed from, the method of installation and the coatings on the steel underneath, it is possible that this teak was on board during World War II. It was likely installed in the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard either while the ship was originally being built or during a major reactivation in 1968 for service during the Vietnam War. This deck protected the armor plate underneath from damage by the 1-ton shells, which were carted over it when ammunition was loaded and insulated several generations of American fighting men from the South Pacific sun while they ate their meals in the mess decks below.

Student Day
Join Battleship educators for a socially distanced day of learning aboard the Big J!
On Wednesday, January 27, at 9am, students and their parents can experience a guided tour of the Battleship and a classroom-style lesson. This two-hour session will feature the math behind aiming the battleship’s guns. Students will be challenged to find the angles from their own “gun directors” to a target to figure out the distance from the battleship to the enemy. The tour will focus on the ship’s main guns and will visit the real gun directors on board. This program is appropriate for all school-aged children.
- Adults are required to stay with children for their entire visit.
- All guests must pass a health screening which includes a contactless temperature check, wear a face covering and practice social distancing of six feet at all times.

The Battleship Blitz is coming!
Beginning at 7pm on Presidents Day, Monday, Feb. 15, the Battleship will feature unique videos each weeknight through Friday, March 12, on the Battleship’s YouTube channel. The video will show the amazing history and spaces aboard our nation’s most decorated and largest battleship! We’ll also have USS New Jersey veterans, Battleship volunteers and other VIPs introduce the videos each evening!

Guests will go through the ship’s 6in armored deck into the citadel that protects the most essential components of the ship. Once inside the citadel, guests will see the inside of a 16in gun turret and the Mk 8 electro-mechanical analog computer that fired these guns over the ship’s fifty years of service. Guests will also take a look into the rarely seen gun director that helped aim these guns.

This month’s class will feature the science behind aerodynamics, rockets, and missiles. Students will be challenged to create their own air powered rocket and see if they can hit their target. This program is appropriate for all school-aged children.

The Battleship New Jersey raised the flag of the Red Cross on March 1 and will fly the flag over the ship throughout the month of March for Red Cross Month. The Battleship will also be lit throughout March.
The Battleship kicked off Red Cross Month with a virtual ceremony on Facebook on March 1. In addition to raising the flag, the ceremony including the performance of the National Anthem by Battleship volunteer and bugler Nan LaCorte, the firing of the portside saluting gun and a memorial wreath casting for Red Cross staff member Laura Steinmetz, who was instrumental in organizing the Red Cross annual kick-off events aboard the Battleship.
March has been recognized as Red Cross Month for more than 75 years. Beginning with President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1943, every U.S. President has designated March as Red Cross Month to recognize how the American Red Cross helps people across the country and around the world.

Guest can also extend their Fire Power self-guided tour with guided tours of the Engine Room and Turret II. Our tour guides will meet you in the Crew’s Mess during your Fire Power tour and take you on this extended tour.
