Battleship’s Online Programs During Coronavirus Closure

CAMDEN WATERFRONT, NJ.  The Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial will be closed indefinitely for

tours, group tours, overnights and events in order to protect the health of guests, volunteers and staff members due to

the increasing threat of the Coronavirus COVID-19 virus.  Only essential personnel will report to maintain and secure

the Battleship.

However, that does not mean that the Battleship is not still active.  Our Curatorial and Educational staff has been offering

online content about the Battleship, her history, and naval history for students, as well as adults.  Our retail department

continues to offer online sales of Battleship merchandise, including U.S. flags flown over the ship and pieces of teak deck,

which is being pulled up for replacement.  Further, people can buy a ticket now and use it when the Battleship re-opens,

still become a Member of the Battleship, reserve a group overnight, group tour and schedule an event in the future.

Unfortunately, being closed for tours, overnights and events has severely impacted revenue flow for the Battleship.  We

estimate that the ship needs to generate nearly $10,000 a day to remain afloat.  Donations have become critical for the

on-going maintenance of the Battleship.

People can mail a donation to 62 Battleship Place, Camden, NJ 08103, or donate by credit card by calling (866) 877-6262

ext. 127, or online at www.battleshipnewjersey.org/give

Every day at 1pm, the Battleship will broadcast on our YouTube channel — https://www.youtube.com/c/BattleshipNewJersey

“The War at Home.”   The Battleship’s Curatorial staff will look into different aspects of the ship and her history.  On Saturdays,

the focus will be on the ship’s collections. Sundays, we’ll take a deep dive into the ship to find somewhere that you’ve probably

never seen before. On Firepower Fridays, we’ll focus on the ship’s guns.

Each Saturday and Sunday, the Battleship will offer Building History Kids Activities, presented by Lockheed Martin.  Past

activities included how to create the Battleship Game and making a catapult.  Upcoming programs include Knot Tying and

Morse Code  Consult the Battleship’s website – www.battleshipnewjersey.org — for more details and upcoming activities.

Kids can also color pages from an actual USS New Jersey coloring book.  We’ll even display your works of art online and

aboard the Battleship.  Visit www.battleshipnewjersey.org/education and print the Battleship coloring pages!

The Battleship’s online store – www.battleshipnewjersey.org/shop — is open 24/7 and offers unique items, such as a flag flown

above the Battleship or a piece of the teak deck.  The online store also offers USS New Jersey hats, t-shirts, mugs and more!
