Battleship To Remove Mast and Radar as She Prepares for Dry Dock January 5, 2024
Battleship New Jersey’s mast and radar array to be removed in preparation for historic trip to dry dock at Philadelphia shipyard
For the first time in more than thirty years, the Battleship New Jersey is preparing for dry docking. The first step in this process is the removal of the mast and radar array (See attached images). Later this winter, the ship will make the trip to the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, where the New Jersey was originally built, for maintenance work to preserve this historical treasure.
Media is invited to capture footage of the removal. Members of The Battleship New Jersey Museum & Memorial leadership will be available for interviews.

The New Jersey was originally built at this Philadelphia Naval Shipyard from 1940-1943 for World War II, then drydocked and reactivated from 1967-1968 for service in Vietnam. With 19 Battle Stars, the New Jersey is the most decorated battleship in the 248-year history of the United States Navy. Berthed on the Camden Waterfront along the Delaware River, the Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial is open every day from 10am to 4pm for tours.
