Battleship to Award Scholarships to Camden Students During Ceremony on June 11

 CAMDEN WATERFRONT, NJ – June 9, 2021 – The Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial will host

her annual Camden Resident Student Scholarship Awards Ceremony on Friday, June 11 at 6pm on the Battleship’s

Forecastle (forward deck).


The Chief Executive Officer Phil Rowan will present scholarship awards to nine Camden resident students. Each of

these nine students, all Camden NJ residents, have been selected by their respective schools; one from each of the

secondary schools in Camden, plus one student from Camden County College and one student from Rutgers University



“We are thrilled to be providing these exceptional students assistance as they move forward in their academic careers,”

said Dennis Levitt, member of the Board of Trustees for the Battleship New Jersey.  “These Camden students have been

recommended by their teachers for their scholastic achievements and we are thrilled to recognize them aboard the Big J.”


The students receiving the initial scholarships from the Battleship include:


  • Lawrence D. Custis – Creative Arts Morgan Village Academy


  • Selena Gibson – Camden Big Picture Learning Academy


  • Lesslie Montiel – Camden Academy Charter School


  • Madizon  Martinez – Dr. Charles Brimm Medical Arts High School


  • Debani Mercado – Woodrow Wilson High School


  • Said A.  Munoz – Rutgers University Camden


  • Jessica Nguyen – Camden Catholic High School


  • Natalia Ortiz-Paulino – Woodrow Wilson High School


  • Joslyn Thompson – Camden County College

Berthed on the Camden Waterfront across the Delaware River from Center City Philadelphia, the Battleship New

Jersey Museum and Memorial is a non-profit historic ship museum that offers tours every day. Have a Blast

aboard the Battleship on July 4th! The Battleship will open her historic forecastle (forward deck) for guests to

enjoy the unique view of the Independence Day fireworks over the Delaware River. Enjoy live music, food

concessions, bar service and even take a chance to fire the ship’s saluting gun at the end of the fireworks show.

Just a $10 donation per person to come aboard. The Battleship will open her deck at 7pm and fireworks are
