CAMDEN WATERFRONT, NJ — The Board of Trustees of the Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial
announced that the ship will re-open for limited, self-guided tours of the exterior decks of the ship, beginning
Monday, June 15.
“We are thrilled to re-open our nation’s most decorated Battleship and allow people to experience this national
treasure,” said Marshall Spevak, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Battleship New Jersey. “The
well-being of our staff, volunteers, and guests remains paramount during this time, and with enhanced health
screening measures, we’re proud to re-open in a safe, entertaining, and educational environment.”
The Battleship, which suspended all non-essential operations on March 16th due to the outbreak of COVID-19,
will offer a tour of the ship’s exterior decks. Tour guests will experience the massive 16-inch gun turret,
M2 50-caliber machine guns, 5-inch gun mounts, the Phalanx CIWS (pronounced “sea-wiz”), the tomahawk
missile launch boxes, the Seasprite helicopter, the Bofors 40mm gun, the Oerlikon 20mm guns, the recently-
added Captain’s gig and more!
“By offering this dynamic external tour, we’ll keep guests outside to avoid some of the tight interior compartments
of the Battleship,” explained Phil Rowan, CEO/Executive Director of the Battleship. “We hope to open additional
interior spaces aboard the ship in the near future as the pandemic continues to subside and it’s deemed safer by the
State of New Jersey.”
Tours of the Battleship will be available every day at 10:00am with the last tour of the day departing at 4:00pm
beginning on June 15. Guests are encouraged to purchase tour tickets online at www.battleshipnewjersey.org.
Tickets will be discounted to $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under, veterans and senior citizens. Tours
will be limited to 10 people every 15 minutes, which will spread out guests along the tour route to make for a safer
and socially distanced experience.
All guests touring the Battleship will be screened with a digital forehead contactless thermometer in the Visitors
Center before redeeming their ticket. All guests must wear a face covering and practice social distancing of six feet
in the Visitors Center and while touring the Battleship. The tour route of the Battleship, along with the Visitors Center,
will be continuously cleaned and disinfected by the Battleship’s housekeeping personnel.
As a special “Thank You” to people for their patience in quarantining over the past few months, the Battleship is
offering complimentary parking. Free parking will be available along Clinton St. and in the Marina parking lot, across
from the Philadelphia 76ers Practice Facility.
The Battleship New Jersey, a non-profit museum and memorial along the Camden Waterfront, NJ, is our nation’s most
