Battleship New Jersey Departs for Dry Dock on March 21 February 15, 2024
The Battleship New Jersey will make her historic departure for dry dock maintenance on Thursday, March 21. A celebration event will be held prior to her departure featuring comments from New Jersey dignitaries, the U.S. Navy, and Battleship New Jersey leadership. The invitation is attached and our announcement video can be viewed here. All media is invited to cover the event – media advisories will be distributed in the coming weeks.
“Today’s announcement has been the culmination of months of hard work and preparations,” said Marshall Spevak, CEO of the Battleship New Jersey Museum & Memorial. “We want to give the Battleship a proper sendoff that celebrates her decades of service and many years educating the public. The Battleship New Jersey is truly a treasure and we hope this event will prompt more people to visit her and learn about her incredible history and legacy.”
This will be the first time in 30 years that the Battleship will undergo dry docking. The process removes the Battleship from the water allowing maintenance crews to perform critical work and repairs on her exterior portions that sit below the waterline. This work will ensure that the nearly 900-foot-long ship continues to awe and educate for decades to come.
Once in dry dock, the public will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take walking tours under a dry docked battleship while it undergoes maintenance work. Tour spots will be limited and can be purchased HERE. A special “Curator’s Tour,” led by Battleship New Jersey curator, Ryan Szimanski, is also available HERE.
Marshall Spevak and Ryan Szimanski will be available for interviews leading up to the departure event. To schedule an interview please contact Kevin Israel at kisrael@kesslerpr.com.
