BATTLESHIP CELEBRATES COMMISSIONING ANNIVERSARY May 18, 2022

WHEN:          Monday, May 23, 11am

 

WHAT:          The Battleship will celebrate the 79th anniversary of her commissioning into the US Navy with

a ceremony on the forecastle (forward deck) on Monday, May 23 at 11am.  Special speakers, live

patriotic music, and even cake will be served!

 

The Battleship’s Military Liaison Officers, Capt. Walt Urban, USN (Ret.)  will MC the ceremony,

which will feature remarks from Capt. John C. Baker, USN (Ret.).

 

Capt. Baker, who served 25 years as a US Naval Reservist, is a native of Princeton, and earned both his

B.A. and MBA at Rutgers. His Navy service began in 1970 assigned to Submarine Squadron TEN, New London,

CT for his active duty. He was recalled to serve on the USS New Jersey in 1983 in the Mediterranean and again

for Desert Shield/Desert Storm in 1992 turning Fort Dix, New Jersey into a Navy Base for recalling medical personnel to

create field hospitals in Saudi Arabia. He is a multi-Grammy nominated classical music producer/engineer for broadcast

and recordings, and owning a classical music label.

 

Greg Murphy, a bugler from Buglers Across America, will also perform the National Anthem and other patriotic tunes.

Cake to celebrate the commissioning will be available to all guests in the Officers’ Wardroom after the ceremony, which

is free to attend.
