Woodland String Band, Miss NJ, Football Game to Welcome Troops aboard the Big J!

DETAILS: The Battleship New Jersey, in partnership with Camden County Veterans Affairs, the Camden County Board of Freeholders, US Family Health Plan, Holtec International, and Andreotti’s Catering will offer active military personnel from Joint Base – McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, Dover Air Force Base and the other military personnel in the area who are away from their families a full-course turkey dinner on Thanksgiving. Over 200 troops are expected to enjoy a hot Thanksgiving meal, served by volunteers in the Battleship’s crew’s mess (onboard cafeteria).
Further, upon arrival, these special guests will be treated to the Mummer Sounds of Woodland String Band on the pier, and a meet-and-greet by Miss New Jersey 2015, Care Packages, courtesy
of GI Go Fund, game tickets and shirts from the Philadelphia 76ers and music by DJ Stewart Balsham during their meals. Upon boarding the Battleship, a special Welcome Ceremony, featuring remarks by Senate President Stephen M. Sweeney, Sen. Don Norcross, and Battleship Board of Trustee member Patricia Egan Jones, and other dignitaries, as well as singing
performances by local singers, will take place on the fantail (tented rear deck). Military personnel will then be led by Battleship volunteers to the chowline for their turkey dinner, which they will eat in the crew’s mess. After meals, the troops are invited to watch the Eagles-Lions football game on big screens, courtesy of Starlite Productions, and enjoy pie, donated by River Winds Catering,
on the fantail. The cable hook-up for the game was provided by Comcast.
Residents are invited to greet and welcome the troops and homeless veterans on the pier. There’s free parking in lot #1, across from the BB&T Pavilion, formerly Susquehanna Bank Center, courtesy of the Camden Parking Authority, as well as free shuttle service provided by South Jersey Transportation Authority. There will also be complimentary hot chocolate and coffee, courtesy of the Camden County Canteen. Guests should be on the pier at 10am.
