Position: Sales Manager

Reports To: VP, Marketing and Sales

Division: Marketing

Salary Range: Full-time

Exempt (Y/N):

 

Responsibilities:

* Manage the booking and scheduling process for the overnight encampment department.

* Respond to customer telephone and email inquiries

* Provide sales and marketing support to the overnight department. This includes overnight scheduling.

* Ensure receipt of customer payments and work with ticketing to maintain accurate payment records.

* Maintain master files of all overnights, including troop and group leader and family names and contact information.

* Assist in sales and coordination of events.

* Assist in sales and scheduling of group tours.

* Generate purchased orders, develop and manage PO tracking spreadsheet.

* Assist staff in overnight execution when necessary.

* May be necessary to assist in overnights and events during some evenings and weekends.

* Develop reports as required.

* Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

* Knowledge of overnights, events, and group sales preferred.

* Strong PC computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, and database experience and knowledge.

* Strong customer/client service skills

* Strong written and oral communication skills

* Enthusiastic self-starter committed to results

* Creative thinking

Position: Sales Associate 

Reports To: Retail Manager  

Division: Retail 

Salary Range: Hourly

Job Description:  

Our Sales Associates are part of a dynamic team whose goal is to provide superior customer service and overall excellent experience for our guests. Individuals in this position are responsible for selling merchandise in the Museum Store. This position is Part-Time, not to exceed 24 hours per week.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Actively greets all customers who enter the shop while ensuring high-quality customer service and overall experience.  
  • Handles sales and register functions, including opening and closing procedures. 
  • Service inbound calls and inquiries in a professional manner. 
  • Restocking of the sales floor as merchandise is depleted. 
  • Utilizing appropriate customer service skills to answer questions and provide additional information for all guests. 
  • Monitor guests activities in order to ensure compliance with established tour regulations and safety practices. 
  • Provide for the physical safety of groups, performing such activities as providing first aid and directing emergency evacuations. 
  • Provide directions and other pertinent information to guests. 
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Previous retail experience

  • Flexibility in adjusting to an assignment and environment changes

  • Ability to safely navigate the Battleships narrow passageways and walk up and down multiple steep interior and exterior stairs. 
  • Ability to work weekends, evening hours, or holidays as needed. 
  • Military/Naval knowledge is helpful.

Position: Tour Guide

Reports To: Vice President of Curatorial Affairs & Education

Division: Curatorial Affairs & Education

Salary Range: Hourly

The Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial is a private non-profit organization tasked with preserving and interpreting our country’s longest, fastest, and most decorated battleship. As a trained tour guide you will be the public face of the institution interpreting spaces on the self-guided tour route and giving tours, programs, and classes to groups.

Details:
$10.00 an hour.
Part-time as needed, not to exceed 24 hours per week. Hours are dependent on your availability and the programming needs of the museum. There is less need in winter than the rest of the year. Most shifts are 2-4 hours long.
The goal of the position is to provide visitors including school groups and veterans with an enjoyable, educational and safe guided tour experience as they learn about the Battleship New Jersey.
Training starts in February. There are 4 mandatory training days, to be determined, and 10 additional hours on the tour route individually scheduled culminating in an exam. Employment depends on your ability to complete the training and pass the exam within a month.

Responsibilities:
Conduct assigned scheduled guided tours and programs of the ship. This will include providing a pre-tour briefing, staying within a prescribed time limit, following the tour route, accurately relaying the established script, and utilizing appropriate customer service skills to answer questions and provide additional information for all visitors.
Interpret gallery spaces as assigned.
Monitor visitors’ activities in order to ensure compliance with established tour regulations and safety practices.
Provide for the physical safety of groups, performing such activities as providing first aid and directing emergency evacuations.
Provide directions and other pertinent information to visitors.
All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Interest in history and education.
Possess very strong verbal communication, interpersonal, and public engagement skills. Comfortable navigating sensitive subject matter.
Ability to retain historical facts and relate that information to visitors in an interesting and informative way.
Ability to safely navigate narrow passageways and walk up and down multiple steep interior and exterior stairs in all weather conditions.
