Just before dawn on the morning of Monday, January 29, two of the USS New Jersey’s historic WWII 16” gun barrels arrived at the Battleship on oversized rail cars. The third arrived across the river at the Philadelphia Navy Yard.
The three barrels began their final journey north from Portsmouth, Virginia, on January 13. Next week they will be offloaded from the rail cars, and later this spring they will be restored and displayed. One barrel will be placed on display landside at the Battleship, while the other one will be displayed at the Mahan Collections, Basking Ridge, NJ.
