What is the official name of the Battleship?
The official name of the ship is Battleship New Jersey. Many crew that served on her referred to her as the “Big J”. Other nicknames include “BB 62” (for “Battleship # 62”) and “Black Dragon”.




Where is the Battleship New Jersey located? The Battleship New Jersey is located on the Camden Waterfront in New Jersey next to the Adventure Aquarium and the Tweeter Center. The Camden Waterfront is directly across the Delaware River from Center City Philadelphia.

Can we tour the Battleship?
Yes...the tour takes visitors around the upper and lower sections of the Battleship complete with displays and a multi-media room for any disabled visitors.




What do you see on the tour?
Tours cover many areas, including the Bridge, the crew’s mess, the communication’s room and the big 16” guns. Exhibits include “New Jerseyans on the Big J”, “A Sailor’s Life”, “Keepers of the Sea” and more.




Are the tours guided or can you browse the ship?
We have three different tours: docent-assisted, self-guided and the docent guided Firepower tour, which highlights the ship's weapons systems. Docent assisted tours take approximately two hours from start to finish. Self-guided tours allow you to set your own pace, following a clearly marked tour route.




Can you sleep over on the Battleship?
We have a popular overnight Encampment program that is available on Friday and Saturday nights throughout the year. This is a youth-oriented program open to families with children and youth groups like Boy and Girl Scouts. Adult groups and individuals without children are not allowed.






Do you ever rent out parts of the ship for private parties?
The ship is available for both corporate and social events. From board meetings to Bar Mitzvahs, the Battleship New Jersey makes a unique venue for your special event. For more information call our events department at 856-966-1652 x114.




Can we support the Battleship New Jersey somehow?
